Summer fun

To kill some time on a beautiful sunny day, we put on our swimsuits and splashed around a bit on Will's water playmat (Fisher Price, $15 at Wal-Mart, perfect for babies that are too small for a baby pool). He isn't sitting up totally on his own yet, so we relied on the Bumbo seat to help him sit near the water. He was hesitant at first, but he warmed up to it. He enjoyed feeling the water hit his toes. Oh, and check out his super cute swim trunks and hat set from the Baby Gap outlet (love that place!). It's probably a lobster print, but in tribute to our Louisiana relatives, we'll pretend it's crawfish instead. I'm sure one day, I'll teach Will to peel them like a pro. Meanwhile, we'll just stick to our bland pureed baby food! That's all for today. We have a busy week ahead - a play date at the zoo, visits from Erin and Pi, a 6 month pediatrician check-up, and lunch with Brian and a former Sunday-school teacher of his from Moody. I'm sure I'll document all the excitement with my camera, so stay tuned!

Memorial Day Weekend

Happy early birthday to me!  Today, Memorial Day, Brian had off work.  Since he’s working tomorrow on my actual birthday, he helped me do some child-free shopping by keeping Will.  First, we went to breakfast.  Will was an angel the entire time and just smiled at us and looked around in his car seat.  Then Brian took over daddy duties at home while I went to the outlet mall and another shopping center.  I didn’t buy much for myself (surprise though – Will got some new clothes.  He doesn’t need them, but I can’t resist Gap outlet deals.  They have the cutest $3.99 baseball-style tees for little boys).  Still, it was nice to browse around without having to drag out the stroller or go to the car to feed Will.  When I came home late afternoon, my baby was all smiles to see me.  Apparently, he gave Brian a bit of a hard time.  He’s used to me during the day, so he was a little extra fussy with his daddy trying to do “mommy things”.  They had fun playtime, but I think they were both a little happy when I walked through the door.  Now my sweet baby boy is sound asleep in bed, and my other sweet boy is relaxing on the couch.  I look forward to the week ahead as I can enjoy time at home getting back into a household routine of keeping things straight, cooking, and taking care of the Noble men.

Will's "Jeep" walker

I found an outdoor-friendly walker for Will. The weather was wonderful today, so we took advantage. Will doesn't move more than a few inches in his walker yet, but he sure loves the steering wheel and rear view mirrors. Here he is playing in his Jeep! I have a feeling that this summer, "Jeep rides" in the driveway will become a regular thing!

Happy Mother’s Day!

 

       Instead of a traditional Mother’s Day card, I decided to do a Mother’s Day blog to honor my own sweet momma.  Although I give my mom a hard time when she still treats me like her “baby,” I appreciate her so very much.  She was always supportive of me in whatever I wanted to do, and she still is. 

     I remember being a little girl and feeling sick to my stomach.  As mom was comforting me, I got sick all over her.  I felt so bad.  I may have been four years old.  I remember her not caring one bit and just feeling bad that I was ill.  That was one of the first moments where I really stopped to think about how much she truly loved me.  Fast-forward to my pre-teen years.  Before a dance, I had my hair done.  Well, somehow I ended up with a big brown football helmet of a hairstyle.  I was in tears, and my momma scoured the very limited number of stores in our hometown to find a pretty hair clip (it maybe was $15, but at the time, I remember thinking that was too much money).  Then, she stayed on the phone until she found someone who was willing to “fix” my brown helmet. It may not seem like a big deal now, but she was determined to help me through my “big crisis,” or so I thought at the time.  She never once acted like it was silly.  

   Now as an adult, I still depend on my mom sometimes.  One of the most recent times is right before Will was born.  It was still two weeks until my due date, and she was on call to come whenever my doctor felt it was time.  Before I ever heard word from the doctor, she instinctively knew that she needed to come on to Birmingham on a particular day.  She even knew best when she asked me if I was going to put my hospital bag in the car.  I, being stubborn, told her that no, I hadn’t, and I’d have time to get it even if I had to have Will early.  For the record, she was right; I was wrong! 

   Today I want to give a big thank you to mom, from Brian and Will too, for everything you do.  We love you and look forward to seeing you soon.  Thanks for putting up with me and my hard-headed ways!  I hope I can live up to the example of motherhood that you set for me.  Love you!    

mid-week update

     Will is still having "tummy issues," so I missed work today to bring him back to the pediatrician. We have a kit that we have to use tomorrow morning to collect "samples," for lab testing, but my pediatrician doesn't think it's anything major. Will is well-hydrated and still gaining weight well (15 pounds, 5 ounces today). He's tuckered out from not having a good morning nap, so he's sleeping away in his crib. I'm enjoying a moment of quiet before he wakes up. It's so nice to be at home with him. Only three more work weeks (12 actual work days now, to be exact) until summer break. I'm excited! Mother's Day is also Sunday, and I'm looking forward to that since it's my first. He should be waking up soon, so I'll add a few pictures before I sign off. Here's Will doing what he does best!

Will is into grabbing everything now.  We laughed when he grabbed Brian's empty water bottle and turned it up.  He knew exactly what to do!
